stall at idle - 90q20v

Hi everyone,
My '90 90q20v has started an idling problem a few days ago.  That is 
also right after the fuel filter was replaced.  This could be just a 
coincident.  Does anyone know whether the two are related ?
That is to assume the fuel filter was installed properly (that seems 
to be the case).
The car stalled on me as soon as it came to an idle.  I adjusted the 
idle rpm and also the screw on top of the rpm port, which has a lock 
nut on it.  That has certainly helped.  I basically went on a trial 
and error basis.  The car seems ok now, with occasional idle rpm 
dropping to 500 and then recovered.
Anyone has experience or knowledge of this problem ?
