yes you are correct, Bose stinks, not on all cars but in the A4.  I could 
not hear a single bit of an advantage.  

However, if you get a chance to hear the Bose in a Mazda (e.g., Millenia S), 
it's the best sounding acoustics in a car that has not been touched up by 
adding a costly sound system.  Actually, it sounds better than most sound 
systems in cars that I've heard.  It made my decision between the A4 and 
the millenia very difficult.  I liked the power of the millenia, but I 
liked the design and handling on my A4Q.  Obviously, since I'm writing to 
the newsletter, I ended up buying the Q.
