New A6, A4-based S4

Hi everyone,

This week's German AutoBild features an artist's impression of the new A6
this week. It looks like a more rounded A4 from the front, and the rear is
*very* distictive, with a rounded profile. All these curves make it look
much smaller. If it will look like this sketch in its definitive
incarnation, you can't mistake it for anything else or for anything but an
Audi. Great car!
The base unit will be a Passat/A4 lookalike, but 10cm/4in longer than the
Passat. Enginewise there are more changes: all A6-engines will feature 5
valves per cilinder. Base unit in Germany will be a 1.8 (125/150bhp). The
193bhp 2.8 V6 will be supplemented by a 165bhp 2.4 V6. Also new is a 6cil
Diesel, 150bhp 2.5 TDI in addition to the 5-cil 1.9 TDI (110bhp).
Suspension changes as well: on the front the A4 4-link setup will be used,
supplemented by a brand new multilink rear. Prices are expected to remain
unchanged. Introduction: April 97, whil the Avant version in expected to
appear in the autumn (fall) of 97.

The A4-based S4 is coming too! Externally, the only distinguishing features
will be a larger front air intake in the bumper and 17in Speedline wheels
(with flaking clearcoat?). It will be based on the 2.8 30V V6 quattro, and
will feature twin turbos, 6-spd man trans, 265bhp and an electronically
governed 250km/h (156mph) top speed. Sports suspension will be standard
equipment. Very stealthy! Introduction: summer 97.
