Dashboard bulb replacement...the $64 question

Well, just about the time I get everything working in my '91 200q, the
a dashboard bulb lighting the speedometer decides to burn out.
Luckily, I can still read the speedo above 60 mph :-)

Instrument cluster removal seems pretty simple *except* that my car
has the driver's side airbag.  The Bentley goes through great pains
about avoiding detonation of this bomb when removing the wheel, and I
really don't want to chance it.

So...can you remove the instrument cluster in a '91 200q without
removing the steering wheel?  And further...once removed, can it be
put back? :-)  Anyone ever done it?
