Re: Turbo care
In a message dated 96-10-29 22:14:18 EST, you write:
<< yeah, this is what i thought. when i say "air-cooled" i meant no cooling
other
than air (and the oil in the bearing).
only thing was i though the audi turbo didn't get the water cooling until
the
1988 model year. i know that with my old '85 ur-q i was told that there
was no water cooling of the turbo and to let it cool down at idle after a
long run.
maybe the states were different?
anyone know? >>
1985 was the switch over year, yours might have had it..... I have in the
past few weeks tried to sort out why audi did the model year switches that
they did, no rhyme or reason, so you could have had an early 85 that didn't
have the water cooled bearing housin... I came to the conclusion that it was
a parts availability thing.... 1985 was a good year for retrofitting the
dual filters, they were dual filtered and had water cooled bearing
housing.... IN 1986 audi dropped the second (turbo only) filter in favour of
an afterun pump system for the antifreeze in the turbo.... This was not a
state to state variation BTW......
