Taking to the Track in 90 90Q20v
Hi Folks,
After watching people do the roundy round all my life and spending an
enjoyable afternoon with Glenn Lawton watching him flog his Q around
NHIS, I believe I may have caught the "bug."
Since I believe that readying my car for "safety events" will be a long
and potentially expensive process I'd like to start getting some ideas
about what I should be doing to make the car both fun and safe at the
track.
I will need new struts (springs?).
I'm supposing I'll need something tight enough to keep my car from
diving into pavement up to my headlights but don't want to totally ruin
the street ride and/or start breaking windshields.
I'm not sure if it's worth modifying the exhaust...any thoughts on this?
>From other things I've read it doesn't seem like that big of a benefit to
go with a K&N filter or similar set up...thoughts on this?
Rims and Tires: I'm supposing that I should upgrade to at least a fifteen
inch rim (4x108) from my 14s. Any experience? How wide...what will
fit...these will probably be a set of "track dedicated" wheels.
Bushings appear to be in good shape so far...but 113K on the car
now...would it be wise to replace and/or upgrade?
Brake pads...this just seems to cause arguments...is there a brakepad
that you would consider safe for both track and street use that will not
unneccessarily prematurely kill my rotors?
Also, any thoughts on "racing harnesses or seatblets" suppliers,
arrangement etc.
Lastly, I'm not a rich man, but realize that things cost money, so
economy is somewhat of a factor. Also, realize that I'm all new to this.
Thanks for any and all advice you can pass along.
