If it's the law, then Audi goofed in 1988 for 80q's and 90q's, because
at least four listers have replied that our fogs work in parking light
position. (mine included)
If I can sum up this mess:
Audi used the same Hella fog lamp assembly in 80's/90's in 1988-1991.
(good when used as fog only, very crappy if used as driving light )
If you own a 1988, you have a good fog/low visibility set-up, but a poor
driving light scenario.
If you own a 1989 & newer, you have three options:
1. Live with the useless fogs and continue to run blind in heavy
snow/fog
2. Hot wire (as detailed nicely) the fogs to work properly as fogs.
3. Swap out the fogs with proper driving lights for rain & distance.
Everything is a compromise. (could we have found the only good reason
for owning a 1988?)
BTW, I've never been pulled over for running fogs only.
