never done this job on an audi, but here goes.
if you are going *anywhere near* the tank with something which could cause a
spark, you'll blow you and your family to smithereens if you're emptied the
tank and it's vented to the atmosphere. if you're possibly going to be causing
sparks the tank should be filled with water...
as a very secondary alternative, make sure the tank is brimful with gas.
