fog laws
Forgive me for coming-in in the middle but obviously there have been some
changes in federal and/or state laws in recent years.
My '87 4kcsq has dealer installed fogs. when I obught the car in '87
service department wired them in to the low beam circuit even though I
wanted them wired in to the parking light switch. tehir response: its
the law--cannot run fogs without the lows on--and of course they go off
when I switch to my "bright" lights.
My wife's '90 Olds came factory equipped with fogs which I can run
independent of the low beams. Switch on the parking lights and then
switch on the fogs. Presto, fogs without low beams.
Dont know when the laws were changed. Probably came after the change
which allowed us to move from "sealed beams" to headlights with
replacement bulbs.
Probably some federal DOT regulation will explain it all. If I get a
chance in the new few days (& if I rem, ember) I'll search the Code of
Federal REgulations on the internet and see what I can find.
