Jack Stands and Stupidity

I might be stupid, or else why would I be asking what seems like such a
stupid question?
Anyway, I don't want to die doing something stupid, so please help me with
this if you can. 

There are four jack points on the Audis, right?
So...when you use one of them to jack the car, and want to put it on jack
stands, where do you put the jack stand?  
I hate to admit it, but I've developed a bad habit of working on the car
with out jack stands because I don't see any place to put them when the jack
is already on the only spot where the jack stand should go.  
I use a 3-ton trolley jack which seems safer than some other types.
Anybody else out there working w/o jack stands?
