Hi Frank and Dave,
Yes, this is indeed the part I got from Linda@Carlsen's. I estimate it
shortened the fore/aft length of my shift lever throw about 20%. I guess the
question now is: is there a shorter shift arm than 857 711 181B?? There are
some who say that the arm in the 200 wagon is shorter than the shift arm in the
200 sedan...this would seem unlikely to me, but what do I know:-) I guess there
is no way to ask if anyone out there has found a shift arm shorter than 857 711
181B. Mine is in the car so I have no way of measuring it, and the ol' arm out
of my '87 5kCSQ, which sits in front of me at present, is 3.436"/87.29mm from
top to bottom. I just borrowed a digital micrometer from one of the Ocean
engineering students so I know this measurement to be right. The 857 711 181B
arm is approx. 3/8'-1/2" shorter than this...if memory serves. The shorter this
arm is the shorter the shift throw will be.
