RE: Jack Stands and Stupidity
Dave!
I would never work on the car without safety stands. Not only
can you get hurt but the car can deop and couse some damage to itself
(depending on how it lands and on what).
What I use is the subframe or the suspension parts (the rear axle on
fwd cars) as points for safety stands. The reason I do that is that on
older cars you can dent the rocker seam, especially on the front (engine
weight). Plus it is easier to jack the whole front or rear with one lift
(positioning the jack in the middle of the subframe).
If you use just the regular emergensy jack than the whole task is a
lot harder so I would advise you to get a real jack.
Good luck.
