It would seem so. _Consumer Reports_ (I know, c'mon, I just read it for 
_another_ perspective) "recommends" the A4, and "recommends" several 80/90 
of different vintage as good used cars, but doesn't give the maintenance 
history of Audis in this year's comparo. This month's issue tests "luxury 
sedans" in the mid $45k range:  Continental, E320, 528i, and 3.5RL. No 
mention of A/S6.

On a better note, _Car and Driver_ (see CR note) tested the A4, 325/8 (? 
can't remember) and 900T. A4 was slowest at acceleration, in the slalom and 
on the skidpad, but won the overall because (quoting loosely) "It's an 
absolute joy to drive _all_ the time, no surprises, just fun!"
