TDIs (was New A6, A4-based S4)

> these are seriously fast cars, not to mention torque

(disclaimer: none of the cars mentioned below are "seriously fast", but are
referenced to show that diesels aren't just for farm tractors anymore :)

Agreed! When driven by equally competent drivers (my brother and I), my '85
Jetta TD (68bhp, 96lb-ft, 2200#?) was faster to 35mph/60kmh than my '86 Coupe
GT (110bhp, 122?lb-ft, 3000#?) and was in general a more fun car to drive.
The fun factor did get lost at highway speeds, though.
Hopefully the new generation TDIs (especially the V-8!!) will make "momentum
conservation" strategies (going 87mph in 5th gear downhill to make sure you
can be going >35mph in 3rd gear at the top when you've loaded an entire
semester's worth of stuff into your '79 diesel rabbit) unnecessary.
