Mobil 1, Synthetics

Geez, this hearks back to those ludicrous Slick 50 debates on Usenet. Let's
look at this logically - engine wear is no longer a problem, so Mobil 1
won't make a real difference.

I put 110K extremely hard and rough miles on my Ford Escort (which I just
replaced with a '97 Audi A4Q). During this period, I put lots of tires on
the put (about 35, I think), broke a wheel, broke three of the four engine
mounts, two springs, the rack (of the rack-and-pinion steering), several
struts, and even shook loose a weld. This was not all at the same time - it
was over several years.

During that period, I changed the oil every 3000 miles or so, usually just
at a local garage and never having synthetics put in. At 90K miles, I had a
compression check done on the engine - still at factory spec. And even
today, it still runs great, good as new.

The moral is: keep the oil clean and fresh, and you won't have to worry
about whether you have synthetics in there.
