USA Q-gathering update

Well, I have gotten a lot of responses, and will continue to compile them.
But for now, I'll mention that I forgot to put an approximate time-frame on
my original posting. I was figuring late spring or summer of next year,
since the weather will be more accomodating, and as well, it will probably
take a few months of planning. Most feedback I've gotten so far agrees with
that.

As far as location, this is (obviously) still up in the air. I'll continue
to compile the suggestions, and keep you updated. One suggestion was for ST.
Louis, and for the sake of curiosity, I cranked out an analysis from my Rand
McNally CD-ROM relative to time and distance (from where I live, close to
Baltimore, MD).

The trip I calculated (at a conservative 70 mph on Interstates and US
highways, and 55 mph on State roads) was as follows:

Abingdon MD to Charlotte NC to Atlanta GA to St. Louis MO to Indianapolis IN
to Columbus OH to Abingdon MD.

By specifying QUICKEST route, it came up as 2114 total miles taking 6
days/31 hours 24 minutes

By specifying SCENIC route, it came up as 2507 total miles taking 8 days/47
hours 8 minutes.

Of course, this is a rough sketch, and would have to be tweaked (i.e. extra
day in Atlanta or elsewhere etc...).

So, with this in mind, what is the groups's thoughts on this route? Is this
a decent trip to take, taking into account interesting sites, back-road
excursions, wonderful cities, etc....?

Naturally, this would involve a two-week vacation from life. But what a
wonderful way to ditch the hassles of everyday existence!!

Looking for more feedback..... (and possibly a co-pilot in my car!! A
beautiful female is preferred, but.....)

Thanks. (And again, once this starts to "gel", we'll take this discussion
"off the list". Please be patient in the short term.)
