Re: quattro-digest V3 #1375

When I first got my A4Q, I (naturally) spent several weeks trying to get it
to skid. I only succeeded once, and I was so startled I didn't pay as much
attention as I wanted to. This was in a rainstorm, so I may have
hydroplaned.

I don't remember feeling the steering wheel kick out from under me, as you
normally do when you skid in a FWD. I naturally countersteered several times
and made things twenty times worse. Long story short: You're going to
discover your skid by sight. When you do, do NOT immediately countersteer.
You're skidding sideways; you're probably already pointed in the right
direction! Just hang on and let the car stabilize, and THEN correct your
course if you have to (and you won't).

This is all based on NO professional driving experience and one skid, so I'm
sure people can correct me. It's supposed to snow this weekend, and I'll
find some nice parking lots to practice in.
