RE: Check Bulb warning light
Peter Henriksen sez:
So now I have my relays in for the Euro lights, but the check bulb
warning light is on in the "information center" on the dash.
Any idea why this is and what to do about it? My guess is that it's
something about the load through the bulb not matching something else.
Can I just fool it permanently? That's one warning I think I can figure
out for myself...
Peter, I had that problem also and, as Eric Fletcher said, it is because of the low current load your new eurolites are using, probably because you are relaying them, as you should. In my case I used four relays to handle both the high and low beam loads and the load sensing circuit saw only the relay coil draw. As far as it was concerned I had a light out. My first approach was to pull the front lamp control unit out of the auxiliary relay panel (the one under the dash) and just jumper across the connections This worked on my '86 Turbo and for a while on my '91 200Q. But it eventually begin to cause an interference in my radio reception where I would get a speaker click every time I dimmed the lights. Somewhere a capacitor was needed! Replacing the control unit made the click go away but the warning light returned. My final fix was crude but effective. Looking at the spades on the unit you will find four large ones that carry the light (now relay) current and one skinny one that sends the unwanted signal to the warning light. I carefully bent the skinny one over so it would not engage the socket when the unit was plugged in and my warning light and click were history. Not sophisticated but it worked.
Good luck, Kent
