Hyd Pump.
Ok folks, I'm going to bite the bullet...
As most of you know, I ordered a steering rack and was going to install it
on Sunday. I noticed that the part # on the racks are different. The last
three digits on both are 208 (new rack) and 216 (old rack; in car). I
also noticed that the dates on the new rack are from 83 and 84 (stamped on
various parts of the rack). The dates for the one in the car are 87. I
did not put the rack in, since I don't want to do this again if I'm putting
in the wrong rack. I read in Bently that racks after VIN 44 GN 019 730 can
be rebuild and rebuilt ZF from 845 117 (11/85) can be rebuilt, others cannot!
So, I'm concerned on two fronts, the old dates of the new rack, and the
part number differences. I'm going to place some calls today...
OK, about the Hydraulic pump... I noticed the latest pump has developed
a new leak (between the pump halves). Since I need the Bomb anyway, I'm
going to order a new (or rebuild) pump and replace all three things at once.
I've never replaced a hose, but never had one leak either.
My question, is where to get the best rebuilt pump? I now have three (3)
cores which I can return, so I hope I can get some discount that way.. :-)
I'll be so glad not to see Pentosin on my driveway!!
