This seems to happen in my 97 with quattro as well,  THe noise is not loud
but can be felt in the steering wheel.  THis is especailly true and very
tighth parking lot turns and applying the gas, the noice is more when heavy
gas is applied  It seesm like its from the front tires slipping a bit undre
hard turning and gas.
By the was I have an automatic and I can really feel it shift into first
when braking to a stop, a little jerk,  anyone else ever experience this?
