clanking of glass under my car

Another weird noise question.  In first gear I thought I heard the 
sound similar to drinking glasses clanking from the rear of my wagon.  
Both my wife and I agreed with this "glass clanking" and not so much a 
rattle.  Checked the rear of the wagon, no champaign classes rolling 
around, no cans in the rear compartments.  After rolling down the 
window, it seems to be coming from under the car.  Inspected and 
couldn't find anything hanging down.  Could it be the sound a bad 
muffler/cat makes.  Maybe the exhause connections need new 
rings/clamps?  Apprecaiate any diagnosises.
