Had this same problem a couple of weeks ago and posted this same question on
the list. Several listers responded with the same answer (Thanks again guys! -

Basically, look through your grill next to the headlights and you should see a
metal loop, through which the release cable runs. Also in this loop there
maybe a plastic "golf tee" resembling peice (it may not be there, which could
be the cause of the problem - mine was missing on opne side).
Anyway, once you find those metal loops, get a wire clothes hangar and fashion
a hook that you can use to snag the loop and pull inward toward the center of
the car - this will release the latch (remember to do both sides to open the
hood).
Once open you can see if your problem is a broken plastic "golf tee" (the cable
runs through this and it is what "hooks" the metal loops when you pull the
cable) or if its a broken cable. Both items are relatively easy to
fix/replace.
