Re: V-8 Oil leaks, Headlight wipers, other audi ramblings
On the Oil leaks that some of you are describing -- Oil dripping on exhaust
manifold underneath/behind engine. I've had this problem --so bad that it
occasionally would smoke, especially after just parking the car and shutting
it off - from under the hood. At first diagosed as probable rear crank seal
(not good), I had my audi technician friend trace most of the reponsible leak
to a distributor O-ring seal (driver's side, I believe). Now I don't have to
wipe off that Oily film from inside my windshield every week! That was 2
months ago. I still have the probable rear crank seal seepage (but I can
live with that, thank you).
Question: My Driver's (U.S.) side headlight wiper does not want to park in
the down position after use. Before I start taking the motor and actuator
assembly apart I wanted to know if anyone has had any experience with thisin
their V-8. I love this car, and have put almost 70K mostly trouble-free
miles on it in the past 3 years, so no complaints (even has original battery
(1989)!
Replaced: Hyd pump
I used to dream of owning one of these when I worked for a local Porsche +
Audi dealer, and it's been the best car I've ever had. No UFO Brakes - we
changed them over for customers when we could (during warranty), but if they
didn't complain, or put too few miles on the car -- well, you know.
Incidentally, I also remember that when Audi had some complaints about the
car ride being somewhat choppy- shortly after official introduction in the
U.S., Audi replaced all of the tires(P600) --regardless of wear with Goodyear
GA's - and we disposed of all the tires!!!
What would it take to get out of this one? A 5-speed '91V8Q -with a clean
history, of course or an S-4/S-6 (ditto). Running my Blizzaks this winter
again --love 'em. Any suggestions on Summer dry/wet smooth riding tires,
supension upgrades? Currently have Dunlop D40-M2 215/60ZR15 on original 7.5
x 15" rims. While I love driving, the roads in Michigan (Detroit area) are
not kind to suspensions (which explains why traditionally most U.S. luxo cars
have vary vague driver feel). I was quite happy with 205/65 VR15 Goodyear
Eagle GA's --except they wear quickly.
