My bet would be that it's time for a new distributor cap, rotor, plugs, and
wires. Odds are you won't need to replace the plugs, but why the heck not when
you are that far. 

My 91 Golf had the same symptoms. I could actually see arcing from the
distributor cap. I noticed that at night, of course.
Replacement of above parts cured problem. In the interim, I
was getting out and drying the wires with a towel when it rained. PIA.

Simple fix.. probably less than half an hour's work.
