'82 Coupe Info request

So there's this '82 Coupe (FWD, NA, Auto, :^P) that's been up for sale for 
some time now.  The exterior's in good shape for it's age, but the interior 
looks as if it was owned by Freddy Krueger (sp.?), or Edward Scissorhands.  
It's only got just over 1000 miles on it! =8^O  I figure it's at least 200K, 
maybe 300.  The only thing the tag in the window says is that the engine is 
"good" and "reliable."  He's asking $600-something, I believe, but it's been 
there so long, I'll bet he'll let it go for less than half that.

Now, I haven't even been in the car, much less driven, or even popped the hood, 
so this is all completely hypothetical.  I'm considering making this a project 
car if I can find a place for it.  Enough rambling; on to the questions.  
How hard would it be to put a manual tranny in this beast?  How available 
would said tranny be? (i.e. would some sort of VW tranny work?)  Anybody 
got a complete interior available?  Hey Huw, what plans have you got for that 
donor car of yours? (nudge, nudge, wink, wink)  Aside from the normal 
shakedown, what should I be suspicious of under the hood?
