Re: ABS5 (what in the world is it!?)
Some people here at the mechanical engineering department were discussing
this. As I understood the latest in ABS is electronic proportioning
mechanism to more properly vary pressures in the back wheels to avoid over
steer during breaking because of marginal lock up. (during a corner
inside and outside wheels travel at different velocities, add to this
different surfaces- ice, snow... the situation is complex) So instead of
a simple hydrolic proportioning system used on the ABS4 they now use more
complex fuzzy logic microporcessor controlled unit on ABS5.
Not so much to revolutionize braking (although it does to wonders) - it is
more reliable and permits easy integration into AWD and alternative
engines of the future.
