Wierd problem

A friend of mine just bought his wife an 89 or 90 90Q.  When they first
got it the oil pressure guage fluctuated.  Today, the water temp and oil
pressure guages pegged.  Not low on oil, Not low on water.  The chimes
chimed constantly today.  Now the guages don't work.  No symbols on the
computer reminder have come up at all.  Should she drive it?  Anyone else
hear of this?  When the oil pressure pegged, the water temp was
cold......doesn't make any sense at all......
