I can confirm this.  My Avant had about 5 or 6 non-working tracks on the 
rear demister.  I tried to fix these with some ten-year-old silver paint. 
 The result was still 5 or 6 non-working tracks, and loads of interference 
on FM.  Because the paint was so old, the silver had come out of solution, 
and the tiny amount that I did get onto the tracks was enough to cause some 
kind of arcing, but no heat.

I have just bought some new silver paint, but have not had time to put it on 
yet.
