If it weren't a QUATTRO...
My first (second and third) Audi was a Coupe GT. I bought it because it
is a German car, a step up from my GTI and a step closer to a Mercedes
(was and still am hung up on having a '73 450SL). I also bought it
because I love the styling, (very distinctive, then & now) and because of
the raves it received in the auto press (which proved to be true). I
really didn't pay much attention to Quattro at the time.
After owning the Coupe(s) for a while and learning more about Quattro, I
found myself wanting for one but for a somewhat different reason. I
wanted the 4-wheel _independent suspension_. As much as I loved the
Coupe, I longed for a smoother riding rear end like in the Mercedes.
When I finally bought my first Quattro (an 87 5kcstq) I soon realized the
wonders of the whole package. Now I find that I'm far less feverish
about getting an SL. Besides, if I wait a little longer I can afford an
'87 560SL instead of the '73. Of course in addition to a growing
collection of Audi's, both FWD & AWD (next on the wish list is an '85
ur-quattro).
