and i'll step up to suggest that you can't have driven an a4. it handles
much better than the 3 series bmws (imho, we would have bought one if
that hadn't been the case).

i know this thread started with the "if it wasn't a quattro" question.

another "version" of the question could be: 

"if it wasn't an a4, would you purchase an audi ?"

in which case i would say no, we would have bought something else. the
a4 is a remarkable car, and kudos to audi for developing it.

this isn't the place to delve into this topic in depth. the 850(T) feels
very different from the a4. i'd suggest that it does a different job
very well indeed.
