force door open/get at panel-SOLVED

Problem fixed without going into panel. Since posting (copy below), I tried
something different, it may be of use to those of you with the 83-88ish(?)
handles, someday. While in the "slightly ajar" position I used the key to
lock, then unlock the mechanism, I felt a slight snap and everything's back
to normal. May have been cold weather related. May have been a case of
squeezing the handle too soon after unlocking. Thanks for the replys.

.>>when I tried to enter my car(87 5kcsTQ), the finger latch felt and sounded
"normal", but the latch only permits the door to open slightly. There's a
second catch of somekind that keeps the door slightly ajar, but won't let it
open. I can give the door a shove and it will latch completely closed,
squeezing the handle once again, partially releases it (about 1/4 inch), but
unable to open any further. Tried the interior release as well.

Also of note: The key now only unlocks the dr. door, instead of all doors. I
recall, a few years ago a rod of some kind detached itself and was easy to
fix. But how do I get the door open so that I can get the panel off?<<
