RE: help, moron installed stereo in CQ (bypass rear amp?)

Hi,

With the Coupe, there is an rear amp piggybacked to the frame of each speaker. You would have to pull each side panel, remove the amp and rewire right into the driver. I have one of these speakers I could send you to experiment with if you want, the other option is to just replace the factory speakers while you're in there.

Upsides to factory replacement:
"better" sound, personal opinions deleted
your choice of driver's allow you to select the type of sound you're looking for.
allows for future upgrading with more power, etc.

Downsides:
This is a complicated install.
a)the factory plastic grill is curved to fit the panel, so it must be retained to avoid fabing up a new grill and looking for matching material, etc. Plus, it is integral to the assembly of the factory components, so significant plastic cutting is involved.
b) the factory speaker mounts in a twist-on clamp approximately the size of an aftermarket 5 1/4" driver. I had to cut the mounting edges of the Infinity Kappa 50CS drivers I used to fit, and I also had to rework the factory clamp, but this setup is possible (seeing the green inj. molded graphite driver behind the grill looks cool, too...)
c) the panel itself is a little PITA to get in/out. Tougher than a door panel, but not too bad. Worst part is having to adjust the rear seatback latching post on reassembly, which must be removed to take the panel out.

Hope this info helps, let me know if I can do anything...
