yeah, the new a6 isn't released in europe yet, and won't be until well into 1997.

generalisations about bmw's snipped...

if you think that bmw's aren't subject to generalisations in the real world then
you need to think some more. what's more you can't do anything about it when
you drive one. but as always, while you can decide what generalisations you want
to make about others, you can't stop the generalisations others make about you.
one of the reasons i like audi's is that, at least here in nz, there are relatively
few negative connotations about ownership. unfortunately you can't say that
about bmw's or porkers...
as for quality, i'm afraid the original poster is correct. my experience of the
3 series quality is that it is inexcusably bad. my business partner owned a [euro]
m3 for 18 months during which time the front and rear air dams lost their mounting
brackets, the side rubbing strip from the passenger door detached, the interior
blanking pieces for the grab handles all fell out, the levers for the seats (coupe)
both broke, and the fit and finish was lamentable. in nz this is a $150k car.
this sort of quality would be inexcusable in a $50k car. i was recently talking
to an old friend who has gone from a 328i to a evo m3. he says that the quality
has got better but didn't compare to an rs2 which he drove briefly. he hadn't
driven an audi before and commented on the "rock solid build quality" of the
car. enough said?

the volvo awd system is a vc centre diff and owes nothing to audi.
