'97 A4Q Squeaky Brakes Won't Stop!!

I've now got 3500 miles on my A4. A slight squeak developed about 500 miles
ago while lightly braking. It's been getting worse and worse. Now, they
make a lot noise unless I step on the brakes hard. I tried power washing
the rotors and wheels and washing them with a mild detergent. It
worked...for about 15 minutes and then the squeaking continued. This is
embarrassing and annoying. What did you other A4 owners do about this? I
hope I don't have to endure this for the life of the car.
