Re: Ya'll Can't Get Rid of Me...
Hah! Not nec. so, as the song sayeth. If installed properly, real
PITA, but you gotta do it. Clean, install, torque, meas. runout,
rotate a hole, retorque, ad infinitum till you get em all, etc. All
in the book. Most mechanics I've watched won't do it. And if he even
gets close to the front end of the V8 with an air wrench shoot him.
I use my UFO's hard--no track, but lotsa mountain pass heavy
braking stuff. You can read a book at midnight from the glow... no
warp. Had a slight vib. early on... mech told me to do three or four
80 to zero heavy stops... vib. went away and never came back. YMMV
for sure, but I've got almost 45K on the pads now (about 40 percent
left). UFO rebuilds about 300 bucks ea., so if you have to replace em
suspect about a grand for the front... I've heard quotes of up to two
grand, but that's a rip... OTOH, there are a lot more qlisters that
hate the UFO's than love em, so I'm in a minority...
If it makes you feel better, the maintenance on the V8 has been
lower than any of the 18 years worth of Audis I've been driving...
and a whole lot better than the 5 BMW's. The potential for extremely
high maintenance costs is there tho, so preventative maintenance is a
must. Love the car!
