My (or rather my wife's) Avant is no more.
Frances (my wife) found a back road in Chipping Campden which hadn't been
gritted, skidded on some snow-covered ice and whacked a Cotswold stone wall
with one of the rear doors. It made a complete mess of the door, pushed in
the rear quarter panel an inch or so and pushed in the sill underneath the
door by about six inches. The car wasn't comprehensively insured. Cost to
repair: GBP1200; value of car after repair: GBP800. B*******!!!!!
I'm now looking for another Avant.
Has anyone any ideas on how to get the most money out of this situation (the
car still drives very well). I had the auto gearbox reconditioned 5000
miles ago - also the engine is in excellent condition. Frances has
forbidden me from dismantling it in the drive, but if anyone on the list (UK
only obviously) wants to buy it for spares, e-mail me.
