Re: Ticking noise
Dan:
My '87 4kq also "ticks" from time to time. Best explanation I've gotten
so far was that it is the lifters--car has almost 162,000 on it.
Interesting enough, it tends to tick a little more frequently and a
little louder when it gets near to the 3000 miles oil change interval.
That's one of the ways I can tell it is getting to be time to change the
oil & filter.
The independent mechanics as well as the Audi folks who have looked at it
over the years all tell me the same thing--ain't no big deal. As long as
you aren't burning oil (my burn rate is less than 1 qt between changes
which are always between 3000 and 3500 miles) and there is no apparent
engine problems just live with it. So I am.
