A4 automatic
Hello quattro people. Are you really out there? Is this really a BMW hosted
site meant to trap unwary Audi owners? If it is....come and GET ME!
Well...now that I vented my paranoia (healthy paranoia, of course), down to
business....
I am a very recent subscriber to quattro digest. In the last few days I have
received enough mail to keep me busy for weeks. This is a good thing.
This note is a "sort-of" response to Elliott Potter's query about a sport
setting
on the A4 automatic. (I would have responded directly...but lost the
address..
sorry). While I don't believe this is exactly a sports setting, but putting
the
automatic shift lock into "4" provides a lot sportier feel than "D" for
driving
around town (not for highway use...5th is locked out). Audi transmissions
seem to be biased on the "conservative" side. The A4 ZF automatic will not
engage a true sports mode until its driven like a raging berserker (and you
guys know who you are....).
Also the "4" position helps prevent the engine from lugging up gentle
inclines
which can sometimes happen in "D". Anyone considering the automatic A4
should test drive in the 4 position...it works pretty well (especially when
the
engine is warmed up).
Bye for now.
