I Love My Quattro But...

I love my Quattro. I love my wife more. But I have an excuse.
Maybe you guys can help.

My georgeous '91 20v Turbo Quattro 200 just runs poorly. I've spent
6 months trying to fix the problem. Here are the symptoms:

Engine feels like it falters or hesitates
Sputtering sensation upon acceleration, even when warm
Glitch at 3200rpm prevents smooth acceleration
Mileage varies from 18/24 to 21.5/26 at best

Question-what mileage should this car get? I've got 106,000 miles
but its in great condition supposedly, and a ton of work has been done recently.

Here's the rub. I bought it from the local shop owner who serviced
my Rabbit GTI for years. He drives an Audi, as do many of the mechanics
there. I bought it because he said he can fix anything on this car. Now he
claims "all the guys at the shop just love it and think nothings wrong".

The Audi dealer was great. The mechanic agreed that there was no
way this car should run like this. He worked on it for 3 hours. Said he
didn't have the tools to check fuel pressure, and I'd have to come back.
Now they won't return my calls.

You guys were great about the oil filter question. Thanks again.
