200 Repair horrors...
Well, the wagon, er, Avant, is back two days and nearly $1800.00 later. Got
the "90K tuneup" and major brake work, including a new BOMB (405$!).
Check this out: The left and right front rotors were DIFFERENT. The right
one had a brake surface area (width) of 23mm, left was 25mm. The result? The
pad, which is closer to 25 mm wide was bearing down on the connecting area,
wearing it away. Talk about potential for disaster. Apparently, the previous
owner went to a suspicious shop OR the dealer that sold me the car slapped
on the wrong rotor. Both were VW/AUDI parts. Amazingly, probably because of
the ABS compensating for anomolies, the brakes "seemed" fine.
This is what the parts cost; do you think this is reasonable?
front pads (PN: 447-698-151F) (PAGID or whatever OEM is)-$143.90
rear pads (PN: 447-698-451B) - $139
front rotors (PN: 447-615-301B)- $95.20 each
Also, the circuit board for the speedo/odo was replaced for $125. So far, it
works.
BTW, he said I need to have my exhaust manifold machined and restudded. I
had to have that done in my Coupe, too. Is this a common problem with Audis?
What a pain in the rear. I think I paid over $700 for this in the coupe. Are
there any really potential problems with a leaking exhaust manifold?
Cheers. :(
