Now, wait a second... are you talking about disconnecting
the amp's ground supply, e.g. the big black power line that's
next to the big red power line?!? Most likely, what the installer
was suggesting was that you disconnect the ground portion of
the amp's RCA input jacks (so that the shield portion of the
connector doesn't make contact, only the center portion does).
Doing so might help to eliminate any potential ground loops,
and is a legitimate thing to try.
But disconnecting the ground wire itself is a VERY bad idea. The
amp will probably still work, as it's pulling its supply current
through the shield of the input cables. DON'T do this.
