Found a couple of capsules summary about Audi's. Anybody read the great
review in this months Car & Driver? I'm surprised no on has mentioned it
yet. What intrigued me the most was at passing speeds 60-70mph, the 1.8tq
just as fast, if not quicker than the 2.8.

The Audi A4 with the new 5 valve per cylinder 1.8L turbo received a rave

review. Main attractions were: overall styling, elegant interior, quattro
all
wheel drive option, good acceleration, constant torque of 155 lb-ft from
1750
rpm to 4600 rpm, linear power, unobtrusive turbo, advanced engine
management,
low base price of US$22,990 (US$24,950 with quattro), complete cold weather

and sunroof/security options, and long warranty and roadside service. A

sidebar article complained about the noisier engine at the top end and

roughness with the manual transmission, preferring the automatic with
quattro.
The original Goodyear tires were called "pathetic."

23 Audi to Produce A3 in Brazil

By the end of 1998, Audi plans to set up an assembly plant in Curibita,

Brazil, to produce the A3. The company, together with Volkswagen do Brasil,

will invest about DM 750 million to construct a plant 500 km southwest of
Sao
Paulo, and production is expected to commence at the beginning of 1999.

Production of the VW Vento will be added later. The plant will have a
maximum
capacity of 30,000 units per year of each of the two models, and most of
the
A3 output will be sold on the local market.
