Two other factors I can think of:

1. Bumpers and lights and glass and all that have to be certified
for the US.  Usually that would mean producing entirely new parts.
That expense needs to be amortized across a large volume.

2. Dealer floor space.  How long would a dealer need to keep an S8 around
before someone buys it?  I'm guessing it would be longer than a Camry,
or an M3, or even an A8.  Do people even buy $100k cars off the lot?
What about the one they have to keep around for test drives, which is
then worth $15k less at the end of the model year?

It's a business, folks.
