PST thread sealant

Hi listers:

Just to throw my two scents into the fray: It is my understanding the
the Permatex/Loctite PST is mainly a combination of a
methylmethacrylate adhesive, similar to the others used in Loctite,
and powdered teflon. On the large pipes this compound is used on in
industrial settings, red, or even blue Loctite whould lead to an
improbable future repair dissasembly effort. With the teflon, the
gaps and defects in the typical pipe thread mating surfaces are
filled, and the methylmethacrylate provides adequate locking, _after a
setting period_. Normal metal-to-metal contact provides the principal
locking torque; the adhesive resists vibration and keeps the teflon in
place. I use it on threaded metal pipes. (Use teflon tape on PVC.)
