I think that you may have a transmission problem.  I have 10k on my '96 A4Q
and have had none of the conditions that you describe.  I've had it in both
extremely hot and extremely cold weather.  The notchiness you describe is
never present.  The back pressure is also news to me.  I did, however, find
the little back pressure that I did feel before was solved by the throttle
body mod.  Try going back to the dealer, and drive a demo to see if it
