First of all, I think the film industry draws a distinction between a camera
_OPERATOR_ and a cameraMAN.
Verifable presumes comparable. The only meters I have that are up to the task
are a Copal Sekonic View Spot and a Lunasix 3. Despite the comparative
unsophistication of the latter, it's the one I would propose using in its
incident light mode - see the underside. It's fairly readily available to
anyone in the business - Eric can probably find one lying around - my budget
doesn't stretch to the sort of gear he uses.
The Sekonic on its 1 degree setting is interesting, but the scale readouts
might be harder to tabulate.
Checking the quad Euros in the Coupe GT (55 watts) the peak reading I can get
on low beam is 17 on the Lunasix scale, or around 11000 lux. On the quattro
(_real_ Euros with 100w low beams) I get around 18 1/3, or around 30000 lux.
Full scale on the Lunasix is 22 (350000 lux) so it has the range required for
the job. The question is whether Eric and anyone else interested in
measurements can find one ...
I was quite _amazed_ to find the cutoffs for both the Coupe GT and the ur-
quattro as sharp as they are. The active area of the meter (about 1/3" across)
is _big_ compared to the slope of the cutoff. Raising the meter by less than
an inch at five feet shows the light value dropping by five stops - 30:1.
