Well, if it _was_ an Audi, I'd suggest the reversing light circuit and the 
wires that go onto the trunk (boot) lid.

To which I would have to agree (somewhat), this would be the most likely
culprit on most any car! However, this circuit often fails due to corrosion
at the rear license plate light in the U.S. (most cars).  I'd definitely
check this area.
