Part 3:  The Commemorative Design 4000CS Sedan

On April 30, 1986
I received an art print of the 1986 Commemorative Design 5000CS Sedan.
I guess I was on their mailing list, since we bought a new 1985 5000S 
the year before.  I've got the print framed and it hung for many years
in my office, now its at home.  If I had test driven a new Audi, I would 
have received 3 additional art prints of the other cars in the
Commemorative series.  Here's the schedule of the installments that make
up the brochure describing the 1986 Commemorative Design:

 Day 3  The Commemorative Design 4000CS Sedan
 Day 4  The Commemorative Design 4000CS Quattro  < = Today's feature

The Commemorative Design 4000CS Quattro
=======================================
What sets this automobile apart from the automotive crowd is the fact
that
it's an Audi.  What sets it apart from other Audis is the fact that it 
features Audi's remarkable permanent all-wheel-drive system for 
outstanding traction on a wide variety of road surfaces.

When the weather takes a turn for the worse and the road follows suit, 
this Audi turns on the traction, making the most of its fuel-injected, 
five-cylinder engine, power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering and
four-wheel 
independent suspension.  Just imagine what it will do on good roads when 
the sun is shining.

Now add Audi's Commemorative Design touches to the equation and you're 
surrounded by striking red leather upholstery, set off by contrasting
Graphite 
carpeting and trim.

Outside, you have a choice of Alpine White with matching Alpine White
spoked 
alloy wheels or Graphite Metallic (extra cost) with natural metal finish
spoked
alloy wheels.  And to bring more of the outside inside when you want it, 
there's a standard tilt/slide sunroof.

The Commemorative Design Quattro.  The rarest of a very rare breed of
automobile.

The 4000CS Quattro's full complement of Commemorative Design Series
features include:

*Color-keyed spoked alloy wheels with Alpine White exterior (natural
metal 
 finish with extra cost Graphite exterior.)

*Instrument panel, carpeting and trim in Graphite

*Plush, logo-embroidered, carpet floor mats

*Red leather upholstery and red leatherette door panel inserts

*Tilt/Slide power sunroof

The following Audi 4000CS Quattro standard features are also included:
power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes, electronic cruise control, 
air-conditioning, power windows, door locks and mirrors, full 
instrumentation, leather-wrapped steering wheel, AM/FM cassette radio,
36-month/50,000-mile limited warranty and six-year limited warranty
against
corrosion perforation.

(P.S.  This clears up a couple of fuzzy points on the Commemorative
Design 
Series. 1) The 4000CS Q was available Alpine White or Black, 2) This was
the
only Quattro in the Commemorative Design Series, I have other 1986
literature
showing a 1986 5000CS TQ which was not advertised as a Commemorative
Design,
3)This therefore would indicate the 'CS' does NOT equate to
Commemorative Design.
This is further borne out by the reference above to 'standard features
of the
4000CS Quattro.  CS was the highest US trim level, with the exception of
the
special Commemorative Design Series.)
