I believe the opposite will happen...people will learn to love the
virtues of AWD, but learn to hate the poor handing, ride, and gas
mileage afforded by their behemoth SUV. Therefore they WILL want to
switch back to a sedan, albeit to one with AWD. (BTDT) This bodes well
not only for VW, but also for Audi, Subaru, and soon Volvo as well. I
believe this is already somewhat evident by the high sales of the A4 and
the Subaru Legacy Outback.
