No they DON'T.  I have a friend that lives in the Boston area.  To date
he has had the good fortune of having 6 stereos stolen out of his '88 VW
GTI.  He has installed the pry guards to no avail.  It may be more
difficult with the guards but it will not prevent anyone from prying
open the latch.    All they are good for is to cover the hole the thief
left in your door.  But the next time you will have a bigger hole. I
have seen the evidence.
